PLEASURES named its Holiday 2026 collection “Ciel Couvert”, the French phrase for an overcast sky. Overstandard’s write-up describes a lineup of heavy knits, structured outerwear and distressed denim in dark neutrals.

This outfit borrows that mood using five pieces from regular shops: a wool-blend coat, a merino sweater, black jeans, lace-up boots and a cream scarf. Each price is in the currency its page used (the coat’s page is in euros, the rest in US dollars), and nothing has been converted.

The five pieces, with prices

Prices are as listed on each page during research on 4 November 2026. Stock and sizes change daily, so check the page before you plan around a piece.

Boots: 1460 Ben Smooth Leather Lace Up Boots, black Dr. Martens US, USD 90.00 Smooth leather upper, lace-up. One size was marked out of stock when I looked. Worn-in leather lace-ups from a charity shop or resale app.
Scarf: Uniqlo winter scarf with fringe, cream eBay, pre-owned, USD 17.00 60% acrylic, 40% wool; rectangle shape, solid colour. Already second-hand. A Uniqlo wool and cashmere blend scarf in cream to pale yellow is listed at USD 7 on Poshmark, with a few small snags the seller mentions.

The sum of the four dollar pieces is USD 231.89 (49.90 + 74.99 + 90.00 + 17.00), and the coat adds EUR 79.90 on top.

Why these pieces work together

The palette is tight on purpose. Navy, charcoal and black sit close enough to read as one dark family, and each fabric catches the grey light differently: soft merino, brushed wool blend, matte denim, polished leather. PLEASURES’ own lookbook leans on exactly that sort of tonal variation and raw texture, so the idea scales down to a high-street budget without much fuss.

The scarf is the single light note. Cream against charcoal gives the outfit a focal point near your face, and the fringe adds a bit of movement when the wind picks up.

How to wear it on a grey day

Start with the sweater and wear the coat open over it. The coat’s rounded, oversized cut leaves room for the knit, so you won’t feel squashed when you add the scarf.

Loop the scarf once around your neck and tuck the ends under the coat lapels. The eBay listing doesn’t give a length, so measure it against your coat if that matters to you. Cuff the jeans once or twice so the boots show properly.

If the weather turns properly wet, the scarf is the one piece worth keeping dry. Wool blends smell and feel better when they’re allowed to air out overnight, rather than being bundled onto a radiator.

Cost per wear over 30 wears

Thirty wears is roughly one autumn and winter of wearing the outfit once a week, with some rest weeks. The four dollar-priced pieces come to USD 7.73 per wear in total: sweater USD 1.66, jeans USD 2.50, boots USD 3.00 and scarf USD 0.57. The coat, at EUR 79.90, works out at EUR 2.66 per wear.

Every piece here also works with other outfits, which pushes those figures down. The jeans and boots will carry on through the spring, and the scarf goes with whichever coat you already own.

The cheaper version

Two swaps trim the bill without changing the look. A Levi’s Men’s 501 Original Fit Jeans in black is listed at USD 59.99 at Dave’s New York, which is USD 15.00 less than the Levi’s page. The pre-washed, over-dyed black is made from 14-ounce, 100% cotton denim according to the page.

The scarf drops to the USD 7 Poshmark listing mentioned above. Together the two swaps take the dollar pieces down to USD 206.89, a saving of USD 25.00.

The thrift version

I could only verify second-hand prices for the scarf, so there’s no honest total for this version. What you can do is plan the hunt: pick a spending cap for each piece before you start browsing, and treat anything over it as a “maybe next week”.

Start with the coat, because it takes the longest to find. Any dark wool-blend coat with a good lining and sturdy buttons will do the same job, and a coat that’s slightly too big for you in the right way (roomy through the shoulders) matches the cut of the Uniqlo one. Check the underarm seams and the hem, and feel the fabric: a coat that’s still dense and smooth will outlast one that’s pilled.

For the sweater, look at the care label first; a merino or lambswool crew neck in navy, charcoal or black is all you need. Second-hand denim is usually easy to find, and leather boots can be re-laced, polished and worn for years if the soles still have grip.

If you already own half of it

Rewearing counts. If you have a black coat and grey knit already, buy only the pieces that fill gaps; the scarf is a quick single change because a different colour near your face makes the same coat look new. A clothes swap with friends also covers coats and scarves well, since those are the pieces people tend to own in duplicate.
